Palazzo Vecchio.

 ‘Twixt History and Power

Palazzo Vecchio, a palace known and called by diverse names, founded as the city seat of power, the heart of Florence, is today its Town Hall.

Its story begins in 1299. Built by the greatest medieval architect, Arnolfo di Cambio, it became the Medici family residence uniting under the same roof both the private residence and the official public one.

It represented a strong political message to the Florentines : Medici means power.

Cosimo and his enlightened family used their power to give back fame and glory to the city of Florence through art and the sciences.

This tour narrates and reveals the conjunction of Power with the Arts and Sciences.

You’ll see the works of great artists like Michelangelo, Vasari, Bronzino, Ghirlandaio – but also secret places full of mystery and alchemy like Francesco’s study (studiolo) or the Map Room and the Medici family will accompany us on our tour.
